Alcohol Ink Artist - Abstract and realistic painting on tile and fine art paper
Welcome to my artwork. I consider myself an Abstract Expressionist who works primarily with alcohol ink on ceramic tile and Yupo™ fine art paper, most often in a contemporary composition with organic form, that is energetic and unique. Each piece that I create is original, one-of-a-kind.
Before I can begin painting, each ceramic tile must be first cleaned with alcohol to remove oils and debris. My first creative step is almost always envisioning the composition. Then I select my primary colors and begin to drip them onto the tile and using any of a variety of techniques distribute the paint. These might include blowing it carefully with a straw, tilting the tile to control the drip direction and speed of flow, and adding detail with a variety of small brushes. It takes about 5-7 minutes for the inks to dry so I have to move quickly to execute the painting. After the ink dries, more detail can be added atop the first application, corrections made, or even paint removed in places that bother me.
After each tile painting is complete, it must dry for at least 24 hours before I apply seven layers of varnish to seal the artwork from damaging environmental elements (sun, rain, acidity). This final protective process takes a minimum of a full day because each layer has to dry fully before I can continue. My art pieces should be used for decorative purposes only. To clean your piece simply dust with a damp cloth. Do not use any alcohol based cleaners or polish them and they should be impervious to normal wear and tear.
