Asiatic Lilies is an experimental piece of artwork, exploring the portrayal of 2-D artwork that appears 3-dimensional. I decided to incorporate paper sculpture to heighten the picture's depth, then painted it in transparent watercolor to create an ephemeral background. As I came to the foreground, I increased the depth of the paper sculpture and the intensity of color. The two foremost leaves seemingly leave the "page" and separate the viewer from the artwork.

I framed your original in a grey-grained, sculpted hardwood and triple matting with spacer bars separating each layer. The shadow box frame enhances external lighting effects on the overall impact of the painted cut paper artwork and the illusive background washes of watercolor.
